Why do payment processing fees exist?

The 2.9% + $0.30 fee (plus 1.5% for cards issued outside the US) goes to payment processors (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) to handle secure credit card transactions. Every platform—Shopify, Etsy, Square, you name it—passes these fees along. It's unavoidable and industry-standard. What is avoidable are the extra platform fees, transaction fees, and listing fees that other platforms charge on top. Vendolink doesn't do that.
